SARAH MARIA SERVE completed her Master’s degree in architecture at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart in 2025. Her graduation project ‘Body Knowledge would be Power’, was awarded the Academy Prize. Prior to this, she studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam and completed a Bachelor’s degree in architecture at the University of Stuttgart.
A significant part of her artistic practice centres on the performative dialogue between body and space, in which she uses her own body as medium of resonance and expression for political (re)action. Her works are characterised by a multimedia approach, and collaboration with other artists playing a key role.

Working with materials such as glass, stone and steel, she develops tools or claws, either crafting them herself or developing them in collaboration with others. She subsequently comes to know these tools as extensions of her own body or the bodies of others. Wearing them, she gathers knowledge that only the collective formed through intervention can access. An archive of bodily knowledge emerges, remaining in constant dialogue with questions of power, trust, exposure and protection.

Sarah’s development of a performance is always based on a verbal dialogue about individual feelings towards the occupied space and the experiences gained through wearing and using the chosen tools. It is about reflecting on, identifying and sharing one’s own bodily knowledge, with the aim of building trust within the collective.

Objects of confidence ? Objects that change the perception of oneself.

Awareness of movement, even when its small. Touch. Breath. Sound.

Listening to Movement.
Listening to Trust.
Listening to Appropriation.
Listening to Protest.

There is a calmness in every space, in every protest. Through its dialogue with the body, each space begins to tell a story: through its choreografic logic, through the sound it makes when its being activated = approriated.
